The PTSA Purpose -- Article II

 w  The Purpose of The PTA is to promote the welfare of children and youth in home, school, community, and place of worship.

Things you want to know about meetings & committees -- Article X & XI

w  At least 3 general meetings per school year; 7 days notice must be given for any changes or special meetings.

w  QUORUM:  Members present (so majority vote of members at meeting is all it will take to pass motions, amendments, and elections).

w  Committees can be created by executive board.  The chair(s) must present plans to the executive board for approval and must have their consent.

w  No Proxy Voting.  (Art. IV)

Members and Officers -- Article VI & VII

w  You have to pay dues to be a member; once you’re a member of the TC-PTSA, you’re a member of the National and AZ PTA organizations, as well.

w  Officers are:  Pres, VP, Secretary and Treasurer.  Executive Board:  Officers and Committee Chairpeople.

w  Terms limited to two years in one capacity—may serve more in other capacities.

w  Any vacancies are filled by a majority vote of the executive Board.

An important reminder -- Article III

w  The organization or members in their official capacities cannot participate in campaigns for or against candidates for public office or devote a substantial amount of its activities in attempting to influence legislation.

Article V – some money stuff

w  We have to send dues and insurance monies to the AZ PTA.

Article XV:  Amendments

w  To change the bylaws, you have to give notice of the amendment at one meeting then have a TWO-THIRDS vote of the members present and voting at the next meeting.  Any amendments must be submitted for review and approval by the AZ PTA.

Also Note:  There are not any councils in the current Arizona PTA structure.
